B. Private Wine Tour
Tour Overview
Cappadocia has a fascinating history, not only for its rock-carved churches and fairy chimneys, but also for its thousands of years of wine culture. The great civilizations that flourished on these lands in the late Middle Ages were rooted in a tradition of viticulture that dates back to the earliest periods of human settlement. Following this fascinating history, we embark on a journey along one of the oldest wine routes in history, combining Cappadocia's wine history dating back 5000 years, even before the great wine empire of the Hittites, with today's wine culture.
Our route begins in the eastern part of Cappadocia, with the villages and valleys of Sofular, Ulaşlı and Çökek, which are prominent for their wine production. In Sarıhıdır village, we take a short break overlooking the Kızılırmak River and enjoy the beauty of nature. Then, we head towards the little-known southern region of Ürgüp with its rock-carved Byzantine churches and hidden valleys. Here, we follow the traces of the past while exploring the historical texture of the region.
Later in the day, we visit a rock-carved winery in Urgup and taste the local wines of Cappadocia. We end this unique experience with a visit to the Underground Archaeology Museum in Avanos, where thousands of years old ceramic wine drinking vessels are on display.
